“For my birthday, my wife surprised me with a sunset cruise up the coast while we were still living in LA. I was hoping to catch one of those magical sunsets that you see all of the time. Unfortunately, overcast skies prevailed. So the painter in me took over and  I decided to go for an impressionistic take of an ocean landscape. I closed down my aperture and started making hand held exposures as long as 12-15 seconds as the boat bobbed up and down on the ocean. The more that I exposed pictures the more that I liked them. Then just as it was about to get dark, the sun started peaking through the clouds and haze. Then I really liked what I got.”-JW
